Starting Strength
Session 9

Hello my friends! Coach Lloyd here once again, I know its been a few days since my last blog post here and I’m sorry for that! I’ve been pretty busy with real life stuff. Today’s workout was actually supposed to be a rest day/off day. However I didn’t workout because I was pretty badly sunburned and I thought it would affect my back squats (sunburned on the neck). I knew that if I didn’t at least try that workout today that I would miss it completey! So I stopped making excuses and did the workout today of starting strength.

Turns out, the workout went really well and I didn’t have any pain on my neck from doing back squats :). Here are the stats for today’s starting strength workout.

Starting Strength Session 9

Back Squat
3 sets of 5 reps at 95lbs

Bench press
3 sets of 5 reps at 115lbs

Pull Ups( 3 sets until failure)
13 reps, 6 reps, 7 reps

The exercises today felt pretty good, the backsquats are getting tougher. I feel like I’m going to max out on them pretty soon. At which point I’ll have to switch to hack squats for the rest of starting strength workouts. Simply because I don’t have a squat rack.

On benchpress I made sure to have good form. It felt oddly tough, I think that is because of me not being used to lifting heavy. I haven’t lifted the 145 max of mine for like 3-4 weeks so my body isn’t used to the strain.

Pull Ups were great, it’s a love hate relationship with pull ups/chin ups. Their hard but they work your body amazingly. Not only that but they give you a great pump after it. I always feel like superman when I finish my pull ups :). Pull up/chin ups usually aren’t in the starting strength program but I’m using a different version than the classic. Personally power cleans are pretty tough to master. Since I’m a beginner at heavy weight lifting I did the original classic with power cleans but the form isn’t great. So now in round 2 I switched power cleans out for the pull up/chin ups! I’m enjoying the starting strength workouts more now!

You’ll be needing P90X, Insanity or another type of beachbody program to keep you in check & make sure your getting those workouts in! Click the link below for which your interested!
