Sissy Squat
« on: October 09, 2012, 05:17:21 AM »
I have been using the barbell back squat for around 5 years but I recently decided to stop doing the back squat and I replaced it with the sissy squat. Vince Gironda invented the sissy squat, he was against the back squat because it developed the glutes more than the quads (I think he had a point).

I've been doing the sissy squat without weight for 6 weeks now and my legs have grown! I raise my heels on the frame of my power rack and I do a really slow negative. My quads are on fire after 5 sets!

Anyone else use the sissy squat? Is the back squat overrated?

Why not use a front squat and back squat rotation to work the quads as well. The front squat is tougher and uses less of your back and more of your legs. Just wondering your thoughts. :)

Yeah, I do use the front squat, it is good for isolating the quads but the sissy squat is even better.

I might reintroduce the back squat in the future but I'm done with it for now. I train my posterior chain with deadlifts and I don't see the point if there are other exercises which target the quads better. I know the hormonal response from squatting is great but I'll cope without it.

Hello,
Sissy squat is good but for short height people it's not so beneficial...
